Recycled input type and percentage

Ask whether the recycled polyester is post-consumer, pre-consumer, mechanically recycled, chemically recycled, bottle-based, textile-waste-based or a blend. Textile Exchange announced that updates to GRS and RCS were published on July 1, 2026, with a mandatory date of December 31, 2026 for changes connected to reclaimed-material documentation. Textile Exchange has also released its Materials Matter Standard criteria, with the standard becoming effective on December 31, 2026 and mandatory from December 31, 2027 for relevant transition pathways. Evaluate fabric performance, not only recycled content

Recycled content is not a technical specification. rPET fabric can perform well in many applications, but the right supplier should be selected according to the intended product, not only the sustainability claim.

For apparel, buyers usually need to check weight, width, stretch and recovery, pilling, abrasion, shrinkage, colorfastness to washing and rubbing, and hand feel after finishing. For bags, luggage and outdoor accessories, tear strength, tensile strength, coating adhesion, water repellency and abrasion resistance may matter more. For home textiles, dimensional stability, color consistency, rubbing fastness and restricted-substance requirements often become critical.

Sampling should therefore include both aesthetic review and measurable tests. Buyers should not evaluate quotations only by unit price. A lower offer may exclude transaction certificate fees, testing, special packaging, nominated yarn, colorfastness improvement, additional inspection or documentation support. The better comparison is landed cost at an approved quality level, including the cost of delays if documents are incomplete.

MOQ also needs practical review. Some suppliers can provide stock rPET fabric in limited colors, while custom constructions or special finishes may require yarn-level MOQ.
